Value your privacy
and want to protect your online activities?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) secures your computer’s internet connection and guarantees that all of the data you’re sending and receiving is encrypted and protected from prying eyes. A VPN manipulates your IP address, making it look like you come from another country, location or machine.
Aside from protecting your credentials, there are many other benefits from using a VPN; you can for example use public and hotel wifi in confidence, keep your searches (in Google, Bing, etc) private and access your favorite streaming television abroad.
Which VPN do I choose? This depends on the kind of user you are: a downloader, a traveller, we can advice you through the jungle of VPN providers, the different protocols (SSL, PPTP, IPSec), logging policies and so on.

Slow computer and you would like to work efficient?

You’re computer’s so slooooow and you want to do something about it?
Does it take forever to load a program?
Be sure to defragment your hard drives on a regular basis!
When looking for a (new) hard drive go for a solid state drive (SSD)! Solid state drives are much faster than the traditional hard drives, and have no moving parts, so they are much less prone to failure, and more reliable!

How do you keep your passwords secure?

Some people hope to solve the password hassle by using simple, memorable combinations. Others just use the same password on every site—simple! Too simple I’m afraid... It’s just asking for trouble.
There is however a solution to both of these problems: a secure password manager. This tool will generate strong passwords for you using a combination of letters, numbers and special characters, and store them all in an encrypted vault.

When you log in to a secure site, it offers to save your credentials. When you return to that site, it offers to automatically fill in those credentials. And, if you've saved multiple logins for the same site, the password manager offers you multiple account login options. Most also offer a browser toolbar menu of saved logins, so you can go straight to a saved site and log in automatically.
When you put all of your passwords into one repository, you better be really, really careful to protect that repository. Your master password should be as strong as possible, but you really need two-factor authentication to foil any possible hack attack. Two-factor authentication could be biometric, requiring a fingerprint, facial recognition, or even voice recognition.

Which password would you use?
The simple answer is that it’s up to you. All password managers perform largely the same duties — but different apps will have more or relevant features to you than others.
On Apple: anyone running iOS 11 or later, will have a password manager by default. You can sync your passwords across devices using iCloud Keychain.
For anyone else, most password managers are free, with the option to upgrade to get better features.
If you want your passwords to sync across devices for example, LastPass is a good option. Many password managers are cross-platform, like Dashlane, which also work on mobile devices, allowing you to take your passwords wherever you go.

Do you like to take pictures with your phone?

Just a little reminder to clean the lens on your mobile phone every now and then.
We pick up the phone and sometimes touch the lens or we leave the phone somwhere where the lens can get a little dirty.
This will spoil the quality of the pictures your take.
So remember clean your lens and then take a picture of those special moments you want to capture.

Is your WiFi outdoor ready for summer?

This week the article "The Best Outdoor Smart Home Devices" at www.PCMag.com remains in our thoughts. It confirms once again the rise of IoT (Internet of Things). An internet connection in your garden or terrace is often essential. The BBQ and garden chairs are maybe ready for a wonderful summer, but how is the state of your internet connection on your terrace or garden?
It is great to use your WiFi connection to control your devices in your apartment or house, but the frustration often starts when you try to connect your WiFi network to an external device. You could place your router closer to the garden or bring an extra cable, but this often does not solve the gap the further you walk into the garden.
With the increasing number of "smart outdoor devices" such as lighting, sprinkler systems, security cameras, etc., you must be able to expand your WiFi outside the outer walls of your house. It can be tricky, but with the right hardware you can stream your videos by the pool and post your photos on social media in no time.

Help! My children are spending way too much time on the internet!

When ExpatComputerHelp comes to install a secure backup or places a fast internet connection on the terrace, parents often ask us if we have a technical and efficient solution for the internet use of their children. After all, the internet is addictive for their children. Tablets are very popular for entertaining them and nowadays, most children get a smartphone somewhere around the age of 10.
Yes, ExpatComputerHelp can perfectly define the internet rules for your children together with the parents. In addition to a good parental conversation, ExpatComputerHelp installs a ‘mesh installation’ with which you hold the reins in a simple manner.

How to stop your child from sighing when he/she plays Fortnite?

Let’s start with the comment that Fortnite Battle Royale is still the most popular game on the planet right now and it's not hard to know why. With it's bright graphics and skillful, heart-pumping gameplay, it quickly conquered a lot of young (and not so young) hearts.
But not every device is optimized for Fortnite, leaving some children to sigh and complain about lagging while playing. The game is designed for PCs built during the last 5 years. And there is a lot that can still be optimized, hopefully making your son or daughter sigh less.
How to make your child ‘Fornite-happy’?
Have a look at your graphic card and its drivers. Have they been updated?
Optimise Google Chrome! Turn off hardware acceleration.
Clean up your temporary files.
Don’t forget to optimize your game settings in Fortnite.
With the adaptation and optimization of the above settings and in-game settings, the performance and the FPS (frames per second) will be seriously improved.
